Weft Resist Tree Weaving
Weft Resist Tree Weaving
CA$400.00
Indigo and weld dyed wool on a cotton warp, twined fringe. Mounted on a birch frame 0.5 inches smaller than the weaving on all sides. The weaving floats 1.5 inches away from the wall.
This piece was one of my first experiments with weft resist techniques. Prior to weaving, the weft yarn was wound between pegs, tied with ikat tape, then dyed. After an initial indigo bath, the yarn was removed, some of the resists were removed, more were added, then it was dyed again in the yellow weld bath. Finally, all resists are removed, and the weaving is woven at a width that matches the distance of the original pegs, leading to a registered weft resist pattern.
